"We have heard many words of solidarity from Europe, but the time has come for action". Pavel Latushko at a conference on the Constitution on 3 May.
Viktor Babariko, Eduard Babariko, Dmytro Karako, Ihor Losik, Serhiy Sparysh. These are only five names out of 362 political prisoners who are tortured in prisons. I will mention their names at each of my international speeches and meetings.
- 230 years ago the first codified Constitution in Europe was adopted, which is linked to the history of the Belarusian lands. Now the Constitution of Belarus is a dictator's paper that means nothing.
- One of the fundamental principles of the Constitution states that "everything and everywhere must be decided by a majority vote". This is how the Belarusian people elected Svetlana Tikhanovska as their legitimate president on 9 August 2020. Since then, dictator Lukashenko has held power in Belarus by unconstitutional means.
- Belarusians across the country continue to find ways to speak out and fight every day for their basic rights, for the future of their children and for the freedom of those bullied in prison, and I hope they will come out against fascism in Belarus on 9 May.
-
- Back in April, the NAU proposed a high-level international political conference on Belarus. This conference could bring the Belarusian issue back to the central agenda of European and world powers and be a factor of real support and motivation of Belarusian society.
- We are grateful to Sviatlana Tihanowska who supported the initiative of NAU to hold the international conference. The democratic forces in Belarus are now counting on the support of world leaders.
