"Vadzianik" is a song by Irdorath inspired by a water spirit from Belarusian mythology. It is part of the band's 2026 album and book Bestiarium, a project dedicated to discovering the soul within creatures that may, at first glance, seem to have none.
The story explores the Vadzianik himself, the destructive power of love, and the weight of difficult moral choices. In the end, it is these choices that reveal the true humanity of any being.

Lyrics (BEL):

Translation (ENG):
VADZIANIK
1. The Water-Spirit fell in love with a young girl.
He drowned in her eyes as they looked into the water.
A quiet ache and longing arose in him,
born from her long maiden lashes.
He did not know how not to harm her.
Why are humans mortal? How much woe this would bring…
How much she must live through in her short life,
but he only wished to stand beside her and hold her hand.
Ref.
Oh, this feeling…
Give me back my life,
Give me back my life!
2. On Kupala night, when the girls were singing,
when they braided wreaths and cast them on the waves,
the water began to turn, the wind rose,
and the girl’s wreath vanished, a whirlpool remained.
How much pain can live inside one being?
He laughed and suffered in solitude,
and the more his thoughts wandered,
the tighter her fingers gripped the wreath.
Ref.
3. The water turned pale, then darkened.
She did not know the reason,
just as she did not know the hands that held her fate
and then released her, like a wreath on the water.
May her life flow through a field of flowers.
May she laugh, may she sing, may she raise children.
The Water-Spirit took his leave without ever meeting her.
He left for himself only… love.
