Death Angel rolled into The Underground on May 10th and delivered one of those shows that makes you wonder how this band never became absolutely massive. Yeah, the venue was only about one-third full — but honestly, that had less to do with people forgetting Death Angel and more to do with Charlotte getting absolutely flooded with metal shows that week. Fans can only survive so many ticket fees, parking charges, and $20 beers before financial death occurs. 💸 Maybe realizing the crowd needed something special, Mark Osegueda and the band played like they were headlining a packed festival. These nearly 60-year-old dudes were jumping around the stage, smiling at the audience, hyping people up, and acting like they were starting a vacation instead of grinding through another six weeks on tour. 🤘 And honestly? Death Angel still feels like a band that should’ve been part of thrash metal’s “Big Four.” You could easily argue they deserve a spot over Anthrax — and maybe even Megadeth on certain nights. The merch prices definitely screamed “legacy band status,” though. $45 for a T-shirt hurts when your wallet is already fighting for its life. 😅 One of the most entertaining moments of the night came when Mark’s microphone suddenly died mid-song and he absolutely unloaded on the stage crew without missing a beat. But honestly, he earned that right — not many 57-year-old vocalists can still scream, move, and command a stage like that. We also caught Osegueda last year at Brutal Assault performing with Kerry King, and it makes perfect sense why he got the gig. The guy looks and sounds weirdly close to Tom Araya from Slayer — just slightly shorter.
