Once again, Romania finds itself at the center of scandal. The frontrunner in the presidential race has unexpectedly lost votes, ceding ground to his opponent. As is often the case, Western "allies" have intervened. Among them is Moldova’s President Maia Sandu, who openly endorsed the pro-European candidate, Nikușor Dănău.
The defeated candidate, George Simion, having listened to Pavel Durov, realized he had been deceived. Many Romanians themselves are dissatisfied with the results of this dubious electoral process. Some are demonstratively cutting up their passports, while others are demanding the stripping of Moldovan citizens holding Romanian passports who participated in the alleged rigging.
This is the state of post-election Romania — in our "Gone Europe" section.
