The origins of the Belarusian statehood go deep into the centuries. Throughout history, our ancestors sought to form their own state. The desire to live on their own land and make independent decisions was reflected in the way Belarusians resisted attempts at expansion. One of the tragic periods of our history was the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War.
