There is the shortest and most precise definition of what is currently happening in Belarusian prisons - torture. People are tortured, broken down, forced to incriminate themselves. Such pressure pushes political prisoners to desperate measures. At the moment, three of them are on a hunger strike – blogger Igor Losik, civil activist Dmitry Furmanov and musician Igor Bantser. Igor Losik and Igor Bantser refused not only food, but also water – this is the most dangerous and excruciating type of hunger strike. Losik and another political prisoner, blogger Sergei Petrukhin, tried to kill themselves by cutting their wrists. At liberty, we can only guess why people decide to do such desperate things.
Belarusians have long understood that a person's life means nothing to Lukashenko. Do the lives of Belarusians mean anything to the world and Europe? Do they hear the groans and cries of our citizens, who are being tormented and pushed to death at this moment?
I call on the leadership of the European Union to take more decisive measures against the Lukashenko regime. He is not affected by words, he is not affected by concerns – only hard concrete steps. The lives of Belarusians are as important as the lives of EU citizens. The terror unleashed by the Belarusian dictator is unacceptable anywhere in the world, especially in the center of Europe in the 21st century.
I, a European, appeal to the Europeans, citizens of Greater Europe, from Lisbon to Vladivostok, who want freedom for Belarusians: give a clear signal to your politicians to start acting.
